Urgent CRP is a rapid laboratory test that measures the level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the blood, one of the most important markers of inflammation and infection in the body. When results are needed as quickly as possible, IntroLab in Belgrade offers urgent CRP testing with results available within one to two hours. Schedule an urgent CRP test and receive your results when you need them most.

What is CRP?

C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation, infection, or tissue damage. Its concentration in the blood rises very quickly, as early as 6 to 12 hours after the onset of an inflammatory process, making it one of the most sensitive and reliable markers of acute inflammation.

Normal CRP levels in the blood are below 10 mg/L. Elevated levels indicate the presence of an inflammatory process, but they do not determine the cause on their own. The results should always be interpreted in a clinical context.

Why is urgent CRP testing performed?

In certain clinical situations, receiving results quickly can be crucial for further treatment. Urgent CRP testing is recommended when a doctor needs to distinguish a bacterial infection from a viral one as a basis for deciding whether to introduce antibiotic therapy, assess the severity of inflammation in patients with a sudden worsening of symptoms, monitor the effectiveness of therapy over a short period of time, or rule out or confirm sepsis in patients with a febrile condition.

When is CRP elevated?

Elevated CRP levels may be found in:

  • bacterial infections, including pneumonia, sepsis, and urinary tract infections
  • viral infections, where levels are usually lower than in bacterial infections
  • autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and inflammatory bowel disease
  • myocardial infarction and cardiovascular disease
  • malignant diseases
  • trauma and surgical procedures

Who is this test recommended for?

  • Patients with the sudden onset of infection symptoms, such as high fever, chills, and severe pain.
  • People receiving antibiotic therapy, to monitor treatment effectiveness.
  • Patients in urgent situations, when a doctor needs to make a quick treatment decision.
  • Children with a febrile condition, to help distinguish between a bacterial and a viral infection.

Fast results when time matters most

Urgent CRP testing provides reliable information about the presence and intensity of inflammation in the body in the shortest possible time.
