The T4 (total thyroxine) analysis is an important method for assessing thyroid gland function. Measuring T4 levels in the blood allows for the assessment of this hormone, which is responsible for regulating metabolism and other vital processes in the body. The blood analysis laboratory in Belgrade, IntroLab, provides precise and reliable T4 analysis results, along with expert interpretation. Scheduling is straightforward, and since the cost of thyroid gland tests is affordable, this test is accessible to anyone who wants to assess their hormonal health.

What is the T4 hormone?

Thyroid hormones, T3 and T4, are essential for normal growth, development, and regulation of metabolism. A deficiency or excess of these hormones can have serious consequences for the body. T4 is the primary hormone produced in the thyroid gland, while T3 is the biologically most active form. Moreover, T4 concentrations are usually three to four times higher than T3 concentrations in the blood.

Why might a T4 analysis be indicated?

Analysis of thyroid hormones, namely TSH, T3/fT3, and measuring antibodies (anti-TPO, anti-Tg, antibodies to TSH receptors) is often indicated along with thyroxine analysis, especially in cases of suspected autoimmune diseases. Additionally, measuring T4 levels is recommended for individuals with symptoms of hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, an enlarged thyroid gland or nodules, and for individuals with a diagnosed thyroid disorder to monitor therapy. It is also routinely determined in every newborn in postnatal screening.

People with acute illnesses are advised not to measure thyroid hormone levels until they have recovered from the acute condition.
